Monday 19th January 2015: Window shopping in München
I love the countryside and I don’t mind living in a small village, but in truth it’s killing me. After living in London and visiting incredible cities during our world travels it feels a little bit of an anti-climax to say the least. I’m counting the days until February when we finally move into our München flat! This week I had my own little adventure as I took to the city. I worked out the transport system, practiced some German in various cafés, and aimlessly walked the streets of the old city. München is largely dominated by high-end retail shopping, and as I sauntered the streets with my Fujifilm I decided to run with the theme: window shopping!

Monday 12th January 2015: A decisive moment in Yangon
As there has been very little progress in my own life this week I thought I’d post the image above. Last April I was in Burma during their new year called ‘Thingyan’. It was a fascinating spectacle to see. Businesses’ were closed and water is thrown or poured over one another for 5 days straight. My understanding is that the water cleanses their sins from the previous year. Apart from walking around the city getting completely drenched (and desperately trying to keep my camera dry!) I managed to capture some wonderful street scenes. I’d like to think this frame was quite a timely shot as the man appears to be floating just above the wet road. Almost an amateur’s attempt at Henri-Cartier Bresson’s ‘Man jumping over a puddle’?!

Monday 5th January 2015: Silence in the snow
New Year’s Eve in Germany is called ‘Silvester’. My fiancé Melanie and I were invited to spend the evening in an old timber chalet in the Bavarian Forest. It was perfect, a foot of snow, a fireplace, fondue, German beer, and a whole lot of fun with new friends. Initially, the following morning was not so much fun, as I had quite a hangover! Everyone was still fast asleep, so I put on my coat, tied my boots, grabbed my camera and headed out to get some fresh air. I didn’t have to go far until I stumbled across the featured scene. The sky was white as the snow. I attached my graduated filter to try to retain detail in the snow, however when I turned the dark half of the square filter onto the sky it created an interesting vignette in the low clouds, resulting in the frame above.
